「燒焦人」的暑天

熱！酷熱！盛夏已到，氣溫動輒30多度！

今次就說一下形容天氣很熱的詞語。中文要說「熱」，很多時不只用單字「熱」，通常配上另一個字來形容。這樣的詞語有很多，例如：炎熱、酷熱、灼熱、暑熱、熾熱等等。英文也一樣，很多時不單用一個hot，配對其他字詞，加強語氣，形容甚熱的天氣。

首先，要形容天氣非常熱可以用scorching hot，即是灼熱。Scorch是燒焦的意思，因此scorching hot就用作強調天氣灼熱，像要把人燒焦一樣。

1. In a hot dry summer, direct sunlight may scorch the ground.
炎炎乾旱的夏日底下，直射的陽光可以燒焦地面。

2. On such a scorching hot day, people prefer to stay indoors.
天氣灼熱的日子，人們寧願留在室內。

此外，也可以用sizzling hot形容天氣酷熱。Sizzle是說熱油或油炸食物發出滋滋的聲音。可以想像，sizzling hot就是溫度非常高。

3. The sausages are sizzling in the pan. The smell makes me drool!
香腸在鍋裡煎的滋滋作響，香氣令我垂涎三尺！

4. It's sizzling hot. Let's go and swim.
今天天氣酷熱，我們去游泳吧！

還可以用sweltering hot形容十分炎熱。這個形容詞很容易明白，因為swelter本身的意思就是感覺熾熱，覺得難受。Sweltering hot解作酷熱非常，熱得令人感到不適。

5. They insisted on finishing the journey though they sweltered under the hot sun.
雖然他們在烈日下感到炎熱難當，但仍然堅持完成旅程。

6. People tend to consume more electricity for air-conditioning during the sweltering hot summer days.
酷熱非常的夏日，人們通常會開空調，耗電更多。

暑假快到了，暑氣逼人。要形容暑熱的天氣，上面列舉scorching/sizzling/sweltering hot，都可以。
